This song was written by my 8 year old son Andreas. He wrote the song all by himself, including all the lyrics. This was one of the songs he played at his winter piano recital on January 10, 2009.
Here is a recording we made using the program Garageband on our Mac computer. Andreas played the piano and sang lead vocals. I sang the background harmonies and “oohs”. I also recorded the vocals twice to give him a fuller sound.
This song part of an album he is working on with his piano teacher called Canada. He already has several songs which include: “British Columbia”, “Alberta”, “Manitoba”, “Quebec, Quebec”, and this one called “Saskatchewan”. I think we have a budding songwriter on our hands.
We hope you enjoy Saskatchewan!
You may be wondering, what’s with all the Canadian songs? Are they from Canada? No, although my wife and I visited Montreal when we first got married, as a family we have never been north of the 49th parallel. Let me explain… We had a game going where the kids would look for license plates from different US states. As they found them, they would fill in a map of all the states. After they found all the US states, they started looking for Canadian plates. This got them interested in the Canadian provinces. Andreas took a step further and decided to write songs about them. His piano teacher was so impressed that he encouraged him to make a whole album about Canada.
